What every business needs to know about CNIL’s ruling to ban the use of Google Analytics
Piano Data Privacy Officer, Louis-Marie Guérif, explains what every business needs to know about CNIL’s ruling to ban the use of Google Analytics. France’s Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL) banned the web analytics provider after finding several issues in breach of GDPR: data transfer out of the EU, transparency of the process, purpose limitation and the definition of personal data. The CNIL views the platform owner, not the analytics provider responsible, so those using Google Analytics can be held accountable.
